JOINTS

All synovial joints, especially the weight-bearing joints, contain visco-elastic hyaluronic acid.  This substance has lubricating and shock-absorbing properties, allowing the joints to move normally and painlessly.

In patients with degenerative joint disease, the visco-elasticity of the synovial fluid is markedly impaired because the molecular weight and the concentration of hyaluronic acid are decreased. This results in a decrease of the shock-absorbing properties that lead to a severe increase in the mechanical stress on the joint and the degeneration of the joint cartilage (the joint becomes stiff and painful when moved).

These pathological changes of the hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid gave the researchers the idea to injecte hyaluronic acid intra-articular.

Properties

Intra-articular administration of high-purity sodium hyaluronate, which has very good visco-elastic properties, can improve the quality of the joint's lubrication.
The lubricating and shock-absorbing properties of this product reduce pain and improve mobility.
This effect can last for several months following a course of five intra-articular injections.
